Lead Accountant (Remote | US Time Zones)

We are looking for an experienced Lead Accountant to take ownership of financial operations and reporting within a dynamic and growing insurance organization. This is a fully remote position, working primarily during US business hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small accounting team, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all accounting processes.
• Manage Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP), ensuring timely billing, collections, and payments.
• Oversee quarter-end and year-end closing, including preparation of balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports.
• Manage budgeting and forecasting to support strategic financial planning.
• Ensure compliance with US GAAP, federal and state tax regulations, and internal control standards.
• Handle payroll processing, W-2 and 1099 tax filings, and all related employment tax obligations.
• Maintain accurate and timely reporting for management and regulatory purposes.
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, and external stakeholders; familiarity with US banking systems and RPS (Reconciliation & Payment Systems) is a plus.
• Streamline accounting processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Automate all processes in accounting department which could be automated and optimized
• Support audits and ensure proper documentation for all financial transactions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in insurance or financial services.

• Solid understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, balance sheets, P&L, and cash flow management.

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, tax compliance (W-2/1099), and payroll regulations.

• Proven experience in team leadership and hands-on accounting management.

• Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, Sage Intacct) and Excel/Google Sheets for accounting or financial analysis.

• Familiarity with US banking systems, tax filings, and financial reporting tools.

• Understanding of internal controls, audit procedures, and financial compliance standards

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

• English proficiency: C1 level or higher (written and spoken).

• CPA, ACCA certifications or equivalent experience is a plus.
