Parallels Server Virtualization Platform Management Product Manager


As Parallels Server Virtualization Platform Management PM, you will work across all of Parallels Server Virtualization Products to create the strategy for a comprehensive, unified management platform with the following characteristics:

  • Usable as a free product on a single physical server-
  • Licensable at multiple levels for multi-server management
  • Capable of managing the following elements:
    • Physical servers
    • Virtual environments
    • Physical storage
    • Virtual storage
    • Virtual networking
    • Virus protection
    • Updates and upgrades with dependency checks
    • Other related elements as driven by innovation or market demand

The PM is responsible for ensuring architectural consistency of the management platform and coherence with and up-sellability to more powerful Parallels automation platforms.  As such, architectural capability and having the ability to "scale down" existing products is seen as an essential characteristic of this position.


Beyond forging the initial strategy to create this product, the product manager in this role will also be responsible for overseeing the development schedule and eventually launching the product.  Consistent with PM responsibilities, this success of this position will be monitored by the success of the product as measured by (1) the definition, coherence, and resolution of its development roadmap; (2) a successful on-time launch; (3) customer satisfaction with the product; and (4) the product's financial performance.


This position, reporting to the Product Line Manager overseeing all of Parallels Server Virtualization products, requires both a technical and a business mind, excellent communication and negotiation skills with both internal stakeholders and customers, and the ability to "sell" the product and its visions within the company and to existing and eventual customers.  This position requires both the ability to had the big-picture vision as well as the command of the product and development details to ensure that those details are appropriately connected to the big-picture vision.


As the Parallels Server Virtualization Platform Management PM, you must be able to communicate with all areas of the company. You will work closely with an engineering counterparts to define product release requirements. You will work with marketing communications to define the go-to-market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits, and target customer. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering, occasionally working with the sales channel and key customers.


This is a strategic role for the Parallels; the position is not tactical.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Managing the entire management product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
  • Specifying market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers.
  • Driving a solution set across development teams (primarily Development/Engineering, and Marketing Communications) through market requirements, product contract, and positioning.
  • Developing and implementing a company-wide go-to-market plan, working with all departments to execute.
  • Analyzing potential partner relationships for the product.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of software marketing/product management experience – or significant experience with software product definition in any capacity.
  • Knowledgeable in server management and virtualization management capabilities.
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree or work experience a strong plus.  A computer science Ph. D. is preferred.  Minimally, a masters degree in computer science is required.
  • An MBA degree is a strong plus.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America and Europe (10%).
